AMA, January 20: changes and news
Category: AMA
New logo
The new logo consists of points. It is reminiscent of the shards that make up the Cellframe network. The blockchain is developed on C, so the letter C is also present. The stylized arrow is crossing C. It symbolizes the movement ahead, at the forefront of science. The logo is rounded because a circle is a familiar cell shape.
The basic color of the brand is electric purple. This color is associated with science, post-quantum technologies, and progress. Lime is an accent color, which reminds the old school of developers.
Only the most meaningful information remains on the main page. All technical details and secondary blocks are now on subpages to make links more specific.
“The community has been suggesting we change the colors of our brand for a long time, so we listened to the advice and changed not only the site but also the logo,”- added Dmitriy.
Cellframe SDK
Cellframe SDK has been updated and fixed. That’s what the developers have been doing for the last month. They have significantly upgraded the node.
First of all, we added the SubZero network is added Master branch. Also, we added search by hash in ledger tx in all network chains, backup with 24 words and backup from a file, and, most importantly, the replacement of dead links received by DNS.
What does it mean? When you run your Cellframe node, it finds other nodes, receives information from them and brings up 3–5 links. And sometimes, the connection is lost by chance, and when it loses connection, the request is sent to DNS. When it became a blocking force, or maybe the government decided to close its country or something like that, it could help a node stay connected and pass or through blocks. Remember, we have our VPN working on the Cellframe node, and this should make our ecosystem straight against blocking.
Also, there is a smaller update like a universal package of cellframe-node for all Debian-based Linux distributions. We have optimized queries, so call it the Global DataBase. We have some distributed database. Sometimes we call it a White list. If you are familiar with Bitcoin source code, you know there is a white list, which is just a distributed list of nodes. So, we have a more complicated distributed database subsystem, and we have implemented its request for backend drivers. Drivers could be our own and stock SQL drivers like PostgreSQL or SQLite. Sometimes it requires enterprise implementation. Btw, we also have updated some enterprise code related to CDB.
And, of course, we fixed a ton of bugs. We will publish a detailed log of changes on our website.
Upcoming changes for the Dashboard app
There are a lot of changes in the Cellframe Dashboard; you could find them not only in the Master branch but also in the Development branch.
First, we updated the deb package, and now it has become more universal; it contains cellframe-node on Linux.
Also, we fixed UI on some pages and a new page to manage dApps. So we have special widgets. One is to control installed, and another is the dApps repository, to which we will apply the verification policy. Every dApp, which is included in the official repository, will be verified manually by the Cellframe specialists. If you want more freedom with the dApps application, build your parachain and connect it to the Cell slot. “We are speaking about Core network. That is why it should be safe as a hell’,- excused CEO. Other parachains could have different rules.
We added UI for searching from all available dApps, filtering by verification status.
We implemented a download progress UI to cancel or restart downloads.
Reworked Settings page, added the ability to hide some menu tabs, copy wallet address, and show or hide some dApps.
We added scrollable command input field extensibility to the Console page.
While restoring a Wallet in one of the ways, added the ability to return to the main restore panel. We have translated all values from “Datoshi” into token units. According to the current network, we added an automatic selection of the chain for transfer.
We developed a new block that displayed all active Networks and added the ability to synchronize and turn on/off any of the available networks.
We added a node Logs page that can be used to export the logs for further analysis by the Support Team.
Also, we reduced CPU load, increased the resolution of icons, and fixed UI bugs.
Hackathons
Many people wonder if we prepare hackathons. Yes, definitely yes. We prepare hackathons together with our partner, Finstreet, an educational center in India. Hackathons will be run after video tutorials and webinars. The winners will receive grants.
Pentest
Public pentest starts next week. The rules will be published at the beginning of the week. For now, everyone can test basic network protocols and cryptography. Generally, everything is ready for pentest except consensus. We have few consensuses, and in the current testnet, there are only PoA chains. You could already start testing and finding an issue, and you will be granted. The budget for grants also is ready. PoS based consensuses were excluded from this pentest for now. TON and hashgraph consensuses are currently in development. And then, we will start to grant ethical hackers. All the documentation is published on https://wiki.cellframe.net/
“Anyway, there are millions of lines in our SDK, and if you are not familiar with it, it is good time to start getting acquainted with code,” added the CEO.
Testnet
Testnet transaction explorer announced. It has been obtained on the domain https://test-explorer.cellframe.net. Soon it will be moved to the main domain.
In addition, Dmitry informed that the AMA schedule has changed, and now the streams will be held every two weeks.
Some questions:
Cellframe is a quantum-resistant blockchain, but what about common DDoS and other “old-school” attacks that are “probably” causing the problem?
There are old-school defenses against old-school attacks because we develop everything based on C-code. However, we are more straight against the doze because we can process millions of requests simultaneously owing to our input-output multiplex subsystem. So, I cannot say that DDoS is impossible to make. They are always possible. But we are more straight against them because of the high-performance backend. That is an advantage of C-code.
Will it be easy for existing projects to migrate to Cellframe network? Do they have to acquire a slot?
It depends on the project. But we do everything to migrate easily. The slot is required only for being listed in Cellframe Dashboard. You could issue your token based on our core network. Send us your dApp, and we will verify and publish it in our repository to make it available for all our users.
What is the maximum TPS achieved in testnet?
We haven’t measured it yet, because we have only 100 transactions. Sorry, I hope we will do it next week. TPS will be measured only for Proof-of-Authority because we also want to measure time for finalization.
Projects like Polkadot have more than a thousand developers. Do you think you and your team can keep up the race in long term?
Last year, the fastest-growing tokens were related to GameFI and layer 1 projects like the Cell. Our goal is to show that our dApps have a lot of benefits. It is not about just running the same code on the same technologies with lower gas prices. We want to show the picture which differs from another ecosystem. For example, verification will be community-based and not centralized. We built one part of the blockchain, based on this verification process, that helps dApp’s author obtain its fee. It will be built in conditional transactions. In this regard, fog-based applications will become more interesting than cloud-based services provided by big corporations. Polkadot, Cardano, or other projects are not our competitors. Our competitors are Google and Facebook.
Once dev team tokens have been spent, where will new funding cover ongoing Cellframe development come from?
Firstly, we focus on enterprise applications of our SDK. And now we have some requests. Also, there will be a direct sale of the Cell slot. We have a plan to run some parachains and issue some tokens related to them, for example, a child company that will work with GameFi.
What about developing Bitcoin’s quantum-proof sidechain/sisterchain?
We are planning an integration where Bitcoin holders could join trustless pulls, stay in the Bitcoin network, and earn these bitcoins. It is the bridge between Bitcoin and Cellframe.
